CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
ASSH Book Award
The ASSH Book Award recognises outstanding scholarship in sports history. Eligible books for the Award include all sports history monographs written by ASSH members and all sports history monographs (including by non-members) that have an Australian and/or New Zealand focus. Books published after 1 January 2023 are eligible for the 2025 award.
The winner of the ASSH Book Award receives a prize of A$1,000.
ASSH members, authors or publishers are invited to send one copy of the nominated book to each member of the Book Awards Sub-Committee by 21 March 2025 (anyone considering a late submission, or electronic submission due to cost of postage to international committee members, should contact Douglas Booth at dobooth@tru.ca).
ASSH Anthology Award
The ASSH Anthology Award (for edited collections) recognises outstanding scholarship in sports history. To be eligible for the award, the collection must be edited by an ASSH member/s (contributors may include non-members), have an Australian and/or New Zealand focus, and comprise predominantly original pieces of work that have not been published elsewhere. Books published after 1 January 2023 are eligible for the 2023 award.
The winner of the ASSH Anthology Award receives a prize of A$1,000.

ASSH Public History Book Award
ASSH Public Sport History Award recognizes an outstanding contribution to sports history by non-professional historians (i.e., journalists and historians who do not work in universities or research institutes).
To be eligible for the award, the author must be an ASSH member, and the book have an Australian and/or New Zealand focus. Books published after 1 January 2023 are eligible for the 2025 award.
The winner of the ASSH Public Sport History Award receives a prize of A$500.

The Committee recommends that authors/publishers sending books to Canada use a courier service with tracking.
ASSH Student Article Award
The ASSH Student Article Award is open to students enrolled in full- or part-time postgraduate (e.g. Grad Dip, Masters or PhD) or Honours programs in an Australian or New Zealand tertiary institution at the time the article was published.
Articles submitted for the ASSH Student Article Award should deal with the historical, economic, political, social, legal or philosophical significance of sporting activity with preference given to those with an Australian/New Zealand focus.
Articles must be written by the student and published as either a sole-authored article or with the student as the first-named author. Articles published after 1 January 2023 are eligible for the 2025 award.
The winner of the ASSH Student Article Award will be invited to present their work at the 2025 ASSH conference; they will receive free registration for the conference (including the dinner), and a two-year digital subscription to Sporting Traditions.
Postgraduate students or their supervisors may nominate for the ASSH Student Article Award. Applicants for the ASSH Student Article Award should electronically submit a copy of their article by 21 March 2025 to Douglas Booth: dobooth@tru.ca
